Can rabbits see in the dark?

Rabbits see poorly in the dark. The image they get is very grainy. They do have almost 360 degree vision. They navigate at night by smell, sound and by using their whiskers. Cells in the eyes are rods or cones. One for vision in light and one for dark. A rabbit has many more rod cells than cone cells.

Rabbits are accustomed to living in holes in hollowed out logs and under heavy brush that protects them from predators. Such environments naturally reduces, if not completely eliminate, available light. Rabbits can see in the dark, although not very well. They have limited eye sight under any conditions.

Rabbits have very keen eyesight, and they do possess good night eyesight. They do not necessarily have nocturnal vision or anything like that. However, there night eyes are better then many other animals.

Because rabbits have spotty sleeping habbits they are awake and moving most of the night, they can see relatively well in the dark. They travel most often at night, when most threats are asleep, and can see well in dark environments.

Since rabbits are more of a nocturnal animal they can see quite well in the dark. Their eyes are very light sensitive.
