Satellite television signals are encrypted in order to prevent people from getting programming without a subscription. Using modified receivers to circumvent the encryption is illegal.

Sometimes it is possible for a satellite receiver to get free channels. Many channels run promos offering their channel or channel package for free in order to allow customers to check what that package may have to offer. This is done on manu satellite systems. If you mean however, can your reciever get free channels without service, then no.

Free channels? No, the digital service is encoded with an encryption that only paying for the service can decipher. You might be able to use the dish as an antenna.

Yes and no.. You pay for programing but most providers add local programing which over the air is free so you do get free channels but cost is in package
