A convicted felon would make a poor management consultant because his lack of integrity and proven criminal behaviour sets a precedent for future bad decision making. This person could seriously jeopordize and undermine the principles and mission statement of a business.

A freelance management consultant could very well have a successful career AND a felony record. If a client decides to do a background check, and many do, the record would be revealed. In order to be hired by a larger consulting firm, it is certain that a background check (as well as the application) would expose the history.

It all depends on who you will be working for and what the felony is pertaining to. A felony can be many different things. Poaching can be a felony. So can a DWI. And if it occurred 40 years ago few people care. You want to be above board though. Your employer needs to make that judgment.

Anybody can have a felony record. The problem occurs when clients learn about the felony record and no longer wish to consult with that individual. It's up to the client to research the background if they like. If the consultant has references and credentials, most will not check.

It will largely depend on your client, thought it would make sense that if you are the owner of your own consultancy (that you own your own business), it would not matter if you have a felony.

There are no particular licenses or certifications for management consultants, so having a conviction is not forbidden. However, from a practical standpoint, it could create problems if you want to get higher-paying clients. Big companies are likely to run a background check, and may not want to hire a consultant with a felony conviction.

There are no particular requirements for being a management consultant, so you could, in theory, have a felony in your record. From a practical standpoint, however, companies are unlikely to hire you if they know about any criminal history. Large companies are likely to check this. Thus, while it is theoretically possible, it is practically difficult.

In this age of technology we can find out just about anything through the internet. Management consultants could have a felony and a potential client could refuse to work with someone with a conviction. Other clients may choose to disregard the record if it is at least 7 years old.
