Can a tortoise shell grow back?

My tortoise shed its shell and I am concerned that he will not get a new one.

Turtles and tortoises do not shed their entire shell. Some species do shed scutes, those tiles of bone forming the shell. If your tortoise is one of these, and there is no discharge or other abnormal signs, then there is no problem. If not, your pet could have shell rot, nutritional deficiencies (calcium, vitamin D), or be under some stress.

Well tortoises and turtles cannot even get out of their shell. If the shell is shedding it will not grow back to be the same again.

Turtles will grow and shed off a layer of shell that is too small, similar to a snake shedding its' skin. Healthy growth should be noticed under the shed area.
