birth control

Question by  ABrito (13)

Are there any special concerns about pregnancy after getting off the pill?

I went off the pill two months ago and am now pregnant, I am concerned about the lingering effects of being on the pill.

Assuming everything was normal with your body beforehand (no pre-existing conditions), you should be fine. Be sure to get your normal prenatal checkups and discuss any questions with your doctor.

You need not be. Two months is more than enough time for the effects of the drug to be weaned out of your system. It poses no threat.

There should be no lasting effects of the birth control pill. One of the advantages of using the pill is that it is immediately reversible. The most common possible side effects of going off the pill is that sometimes it takes a month or two to begin ovulating again, but that was not a problem for you.

It depends on what pill you were on. Many birth control pills have very serious consequences. They can cause endometriosis and/or ovarian cysts. Usually these don't occure during pregnancy, but will come back or appear after you are done being pregnant. They have been known to cause miscarriages and complications though so be careful.

No. There are no specific risks caused by being off the pill. It is safe to get pregnant on your next cycle after stopping the pill.
