The only medical procedure to stop periods is removal of ovaries and uterus. Tablets can postpone period but cannot stop it. it is not advisory to stop periods. Because after menopause you will encounter serious difficulties like hormonal change, mental stress, increase in body weight and lack of involvement in sexual life.

Well, if you really want your periods to stop completely there is one medical procedure that will definitely stop them and that is to remove your ovaries. That will send you into immediate menopause.

Yes, if a woman has a hysterectomy she will no longer have periods because the uterus is removed. This is done to cure endrometritis, which could be what is causing your painful periods. Sometimes a D and C procedure is done, which scrapes out the uterus. This doesnt stop a period, but can help relieve bleeding and pain.

There are birth control pills that will limit period, depo-prevera stops periods after taking the shots. There are also implants and other devices that will prevent periods. Speak to a gynocologist about your problem and they will most likely have several options.

There are medications available to decrease dysmenorrhoea[painful periods] and some can also delay it. As such there are no specific procedures to stop them except a total hysterectomy[removal of the uterus] which will result in loss of ability to concieve.

Ask your doctor or Planned Parenthood about birth control. Many types of the pill will reduce symptoms or eliminate several periods a year.
