Question by  Samuel (13)

Are the less expensive HD-TVs worth it or should I wait to get a pricier one?

I don't want to have to buy another one in a year or so.

It all depends on what you are willing to sacrifice. Less expensive tv's usually have less features, resolution, or contrast ratio. There are some good budget tv's out there, but if you are worried about it breaking on you then there are options for extended warranties at certain stores.

The quality of HDTV's has geratly increased. unlike in years past , even lower cost televisions have similar technology to more expensive ones. Please remember that more expensive , brand names will have their advantages. Vizio is an up and coming brnad that is consistently voted among the best , but is available at reasonable prices.

If the Tv is 1080p then its the same quality as any other so save money and buy a cheap one just probably wont last as many years.

Here's what you usually miss in less-expensive HDTVs: resolution as many are only 720p (as opposed to the higher 1080p), lower refresh rate (60hz vs. 120hz or higher) means action scenes are less smooth, internet connectivity (watch netflix, etc right on the TV) USB connectivity (watch movies/pictures/music from a hard drive). If you want these features spend the cash.

It is best to stick with a name brand when purchasing an HD television. This way you can be sure that if repairs are needed there are parts available.

I would wait. The models that whould be available would just be better. Perhaps capable of more features that would really make having it worthwhile, the key here though would be dependability. The various design flaws that are more common to new products are corrected with later editions and/or models.

Typically when dealing with electronics, you get what you pay for. Lower end brand don't last as long as a well built brand. So try no to skimp on it.
