Are nipple rings ok for breastfeeding?

Generally, no. It will be probably be painful for you. Also, it will possibly make latching on difficult for the baby. The baby uses his/her tongue to stimulate the nipple to produce milk. The baby probably won't do so if a hard nipple ring is in the way.

A nipple ring could be hazardous to not only a feeding baby but to the mother as well. Hygiene issues would be of great concern as infection could be introduced to both mother and baby. Also, the nipple ring could be a choking hazard for an innocent newborn.

A nipple ring could hurt you and/or the baby so don't try it. Talk to your doctor about the problems with lactation and piercings, you'll find out lots of problems.
