Are marine engines different from regular engines?

They are ultimately the same except one is in a boat and one is in a car. The boat motor can not be submerged in water or it will be dead just like a car.

Marine engines are usually tuned more towards torque then power. Most of the gaskets and seals are different due to it's close proximity to water. Also, many marine engines cool themselves by pumping the water outside the boat thru cooling lines instead of using a radiator.
