Rectal mucous discharge is one of the symptoms of IBS. Since IBS is a gastrointestinal problem and also causes irregular bowel movements and different types of bowels movements, mucous discharge from the rectum is not uncommon. IBS is often sometimes caused by an intestinal infection which also in turn could cause mucous.

Yes. Rectal mucus is a common symptom of IBS, although it can also be a symptom of ulcerative colitis and sometimes, although less likely, Crohn's Disease. This mucus is produced by the mucus membranes in the large intestine.

They can be related, but rectal mucus dischage can have a lot of underlying disease processes. Talk to your doctor to make sure it is not from a more serious disease.

No, they are not related. IBS causes one to have difficulty or irregular bowel movements and does not present one with rectal mucus. Check for parasites.

If your IBS is flaring up mucous can be discharged when you pass gas. Unfortunately, there are other reasons for mucous discharge that should be investigated. Go to a gastroenterologist who will be able to diagnose your problems and treat them accordingly.

Feces is a combination of a multitude of products other than just food. Water and mucous are a few items which are related to producing patent feces. In IBS its common for patients to under produce as well as over produce mucous.
