Are garnets supposed to have a streak in them?

Just like any gem stone, garnets have imperfections created when they are formed. A big streak will detract from the value, but it also helps you identify your stone. If it's in a piece of jewelry, clean the back to make sure it isn't just dirt behind the stone.

Garnets are colourless.It founds in all colours excluding blue.So it supposed to have a white streak in them . These stones are mostly use as abrasives for polishing and grinding
